Andersen, John, hometown Holland, Michigan I use many different techniques to achieve realistic textures and details observed from nature. Working in layers, I apply oil pastel on top of washes of color, resulting in thin and impasto layers. I scratch through it for different effects, then blend with finters and brushes.
Braybrook, Paul, hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan All of my paintings are created using oils liquefied in alkyd resins, and painted onto a pre-textured board that is solid black. Embedded with dynamic energy and intensity of color, each abstract work intends to promote feelings of peace and spirituality.
Dreese-Carter, Christi, hometown Spring Lake, Michigan I have found abstract to be a great emotional release, and have always loved the play of color and contrast. Contrast pushes and pulls the color to and from you.
Dimitroff, Linda, hometown Detroit, Michigan My style is what I term “linear expressionist”, using line, color and composition to create depth and contemplation. I look for openings to new and old places, to a direction, to places of color, distance, and renewal.
Ellis, Kristina, hometown Grosse Ile, Michigan With pastel, I use mythology and symbols to try to better enlighten myself and the viewer into what I am trying to express. Color is fundamental to everything I do, and pushes everything that I work with. I struggle between the seen and the unseen, the in-between.
Goss, Linda, hometown Spring Lake, Michigan I like surrealism, and in my designs I begin with realism, changing into abstract or surreal designs.
Hoogeboom, Elaine, hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan The process I use for my work is watercolor pencils on canvas, with which I can achieve precise and intricate details that are not possible with traditional methods.
Hubler, Elizabeth, hometown Lansing, Michigan I use the versatility of encaustic beewax and oil paint because it allows for atmospheric layering and glazing. I can build up areas of relief and impasto that have an internal luminous and transparent quality.
Reilly, Patrick, hometown Grand Haven, Michigan On canvas panels or masonite, I build on a basic background color, with airbrush to blend and paintbrush for detail. Painting in my "fantasy" style, I cover the work with a wash, apply plastic wrap, and remove it after creating random patterns, then detail with a fine brush.
Ringelberg ,John, hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan Looking through my camera lens, I take the time to see what others who are in a hurry do not see. Allowing what I see, to stimulate my imagination.
Rubley Kevin, hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan I have access to many different cements and colorants. My wife and I keep experimenting with new things all the time, using containers and sand molds formed by hand.
Timmerman, Anna Elizabeth, hometown Coopersville I enjoy working in mixed media, usually choosing to work in oils and oil pastels. I continue to believe that painting is still a viable and contemporary means of making art and expressing ideas. |
